In regards to the accusations
made by Ron Frazier in his letter in the Oct. 22 issue of your paper, I feel that a few facts and comments are in order. I will preface my comments with a few questions.
Am I to assume that because Frazier announced at the meeting that he was there representing Del. Jay Katzen that his comments reflect the feelings of Katzen? Also, because Frazier is an active leader in the local Republican Party that his remarks also . reflect the views of all Republicans in our county? Surely not, but silence would indicate approval.
The meeting that Frazier attended was an open public meeting, and was advertised as such. Both Paul Asciolla and Katzen were invited guests. Katzen chose not to attend. If, as Frazier stated, there were more Democrats than Republicans at the meeting it was because Republicans voluntarily chose not to attend. It should be noted that Frazier arrived at the meeting almost an hour after it started.
Yes, there was discussion at this meeting concerning the actions of the Christian Coalition and other groups to influence the direction of the public school systems in this county. This is an issue that has been and will continue to be discussed in the public sector and well it should be. To infer that there was any “hate filled, anti-Christian, bigoted diatribe “ (Frazier’s words) at this meeting is wrong.
This meeting was attended by some of the finest, hard working residents in our county. All in attendance have voluntarily given countless hours of their time to make Rappahannock a better place to live. Many are leaders in churches throughout the area. How dare you accuse these people of supporting antiChristian bigotry.
