June Jordan, whose vibrant canvases will be lighting up the walls of the Middle Street Gallery for the next month, began painting after a friend enticed her back to a beginner’s art class.
Jordan, a Rappahannock resident and well-known and respected potter, had focused her considerable talent on pottery after getting under graduate and masters degrees.
“Of course I had all the courses on drawing and painting (in college) but when my friend Joyce talked me into it, I went back and took this class and I got hooked,” she said. She also studied painting with Olive Graham of Bridgewater for three years while attending high school.
Her resurgence of interest occurred about 1987 and since then she has studied painting seriously under a number of prestigious teachers.
