As of Tuesday, Oct. 7, there is no longer a requirement that pay phones charge only 25 cents and allow an unlimit- • ed time for conversation for •; local phone calls.
In this deregulated and ■ competitive market, the con- ; sumer will need to listen care- • fully when using a pay tele- • phone. They need to know which long distance carrier \ they are using and what the » price structure is. They also » need to pay close attention to [ local calls, as different tel$- • phones may have different ! rules. While companies are still allowed to charge only 25 cents for local calls, they are also allowed now to charge more. 1
