and Megan Fairbrother took fifth, sixth and seventh,, with times of 21:41, 22:05 and 22:06 respectively. Jessie Gheen took ninth for Rappahannock with a time of 22:49.
Again, Brentsville edged out Rappahannock by taking first, third, fourth, eighth and tenth and captured the district title. A runner from Mason took second.
Rappahannock Cross Country Coach Dave van de Graaff and assistant coach Reed Gillespie both said they were extremely proud of the teams’ efforts and the results.
They said it was no surprise that Brentsville took the championship as they were state champs last year but Rappahannock had a very Strong showing.
The final event of the day was the Developmental Race.
At the awards banquet, held at Rappahannock County High School immediately following the races, van de Graaff said, “Today’s developmental race is the epitome of what cross country is all about. They persevere, work hard and are the nucleus of the team of the future. They were awesome today.”
In the developmental race only the top three in boys and girls medal.
Chris Dennis, in 19:34, and Colin Nichols, in 19:36, took first and second for the boys. A runner from Brentsville took third.
