Compound The chemical composition of a particular racing tire is refered to as its compound.

Dirty Air Turbulent air behind or beside a fast moving racecar. If you’ve ever felt the turbulance behind a large truck on the highway, you’ve experienced dirty air.

Downforce The tendency of air to push a car downward. Downforce increases with the speed of a car. Downforce causes drag.

Drag Wind resistance, the tendency of air to resist a car’s forward motion.

Drafting When cars run nose to tail at high speeds, the lead car breaks the wind resistance for following cars. Likewise, the following cars cause there to be less drag on the lead car. Cars traveling in a draft travel faster on a race track than a car traveling by itself. ^
