Calls to my county supervisor prompted the usual arguments for this type of project. Bob Anderson says the issues are: safety, the needs of local business concerns, and that it has been part of the plan for years and procedures have been followed. It is a done deal unless a lot of fuss is raised.
When I said I would like to be able to walk down our shady road he told me the roads were not for walking on. I don’t agree with that and neither do most kids and dogs. We don’t live on a highway yet. The safety arguments are best classified as excuses to do what is most convenient for VDOT.
This project (and the interminable and disruptive resurfacing of roads that show no sign of deterioration) have all the hallmarks of a bloated, overfunded bureaucracy trying to spend all of its budget on make work projects to insure receiving next year’s equally bloated budget.
