It’s a real shame that IMSA will die. Once the thriving sanction of prototype sportscar racing in North America, it appears beaten. If it operates in 1998, projected losses run into the $10-million range. Evans, in an attempt to keep his organization alive, reportedly offered teams franchises and quarterly payouts in lieu of prize money.
It has been rumored that John Bishop has been working on a new set of rules for GT competition. It’s a fact that he was in attendance at the meeting that led to the announcement of the USRRC.
Ironically, Bishop founded IMSA. The cards are stacked a mile high against Evans and his organization’s survival.
