There are 18 Head Start preschoolers that attend class with their more affluent peers instead of being segregated in a separate facility. CCLC has a history of inclusion of handicapped children.
The center is funded by donations and private foundation grants. It provides a full time program for children from low-income families, who volunteer at the center for eight hours monthly, participate in a home visit, and attend a monthly parenting workshop in exchange for receiving a high quality, comprehensive early childhood program for their child.
In addition, it provides adult support, modeling of appropriate adult-child interactions and parent education.
The center’s annual budget is $400,000, and it is a debt free facility of eight acres, with three buildings. About $30,000 each year comes from private donations and fundraising and goes to provide scholarships to families who cannot afford full tuition. Forty percent of thq children are receiving tuition assistance.
