and friends view him. If a child is over anxious about his seizure disorder, regarding it as the dominant feature in his life, or is fearful of his condition because he is overprotected by his parents, he may not develop independence and maturity as a child or as an adult.
But if the child learns that he has a treatable disorder that need not interfere seriously with a normal life, if he is encouraged to share in the everyday activities of his peers and family, then he has the chance to develop into a mature, independent individual. The early experiences of acceptance and selfconfidence will also help temper the less sensitive reactions of others ignorant of the characteristics of epilepsy.
