In spite of a Rappahannock Education Association (REA) vote showing that the great majority of Rappahannock teachers wish to keep the index salary scale approved by the board last winter, the school board voted Tuesday night to abandon the concept at least for the coming school year. Richard Smith, REA president, told the board that <>1 of (>7 teachers voted, both by voice vote and secret ballot, to try to carry out the index system in spite of deep cuts in the proposed 1983-84 school budget imposed by the supervisors last week.
