It was the best m times and the worst of times for the Rappahannock Panthers as the 1983 baseball season neared its final innings this week.
Tuesday’s home game against Stonewall Jackson gave pitcher Jeff Porter a one-hitter and a Rappahannock win while last Friday’s contest at Manassas Park saw the Panthers buried by the district leading Cougars.
“Friday’s game was our worst of the year. We lost 22-2 in six innings,” reported coach Doyle Dawson.
The Cougars scored every inning as Dawson cleared the bull pen, using every Rapp pitcher and then some to try to stop the barrage. Jeff Porter was on the mound for the first two innings, then Mike Leake replaced him only to be replaced bv Tom Sisk in the third. Pops Aylor threw in the fifth and Tater Williams in the sixth. “But nothing worked,” the coach lamented.
