throughout the swamp. There was not as much animal life as we had expected. We saw only salamanders and newts.
It was cloudy and overcast and the temperature was chilly as we walked on the raised wooded walkway through the swamp. There were also snakes and bears, we were told, which we fortunately didn’t encounter. There were some ducks on the lake, too.
Lake Drummond was interesting to see. We rode down the four and half mile road parallel to the Washington ditch that George Washington surveyed. The water of the lake used to be pure and drinkable but it is now contaminated because of pollution. The lake doesn’t contain many fish because the water is very acid.
