Culpeper: A Virginia County’s History Through 1920, is now available through The Comer Shelf Bookstore in Culpeper, or through the author, Eugene M. Scheel, Orchardcroft in Waterford.
The book, published by the Culpeper Historical society, is Culpeper County’s first history. Included in the history is a detailed section on Indians and pre-history as Captain John Smith’s native informant, Amoroleck, was a Culpeper resident. And the whys and background behind Fredericksburg’s Mann Page’s comment of the Culpeper Minutemen, “Raised in a minute, armed in a minute, vanquished in a minute,” comes to light.
