Peter's skills as a carpenter. Like his work and, in fact, like the entire town of Washington, it’s a unique melding of past and present. Originally a collection of small outbuildings for the large Clopton House next door, the little structures have been restored, remodeled, and transformed into a eohensive whole.
The Kramer’s kitchen is the old summer kitchen for the large house, their upstairs bedroom was the slave quarters, the bathroom a dairy building, the living room an old smoke 1 house and Peter’s downstairs office the root cellar. Connecting it all is a new dining room and solarium.
Across the street is the Mayse House, some of it built in the lX30’s, some of it in the 18fi0’s, and all of it lovingly restored by Kramer, an effort he describes as his “opus magnum." Rundown and almost abandoned until Peter loaded it onto a trailer and moved it to Main Street and a new life, the house will serve as a display case for both Kramer’s furniture and the talents of other Rush River artists. “We decided that we would try to showcase individual artists in
