After a long winter cooped up inside, youngsters can hardly wait for spring and the chance to return to the great outdoors. But the outdoors loses that greatness when a child becomes lost.
Over the years, Rappahannock County has had its share of tragedies resulting frm youngsters who have lost their way in its forests and mountains. As the county grows and the wild places become more developed, lost children will become fewer and fewer. But as long as there’s a wooded acre left here, the chance exists.
To lessen that chance, parents can learn from the Hug-A-Tree Program developed in California to help prepare five through 12 year olds, should they become lost in the woods.
