August travel slows
Travel in the Shenandoah National Park declined during August from the same period a year ago.
Although nearly 8,000 fewer visitors took advantage of the park over the same month in 1984, the year-to-date figures continue to show a healthy increase in park traffic by almost 25,000 visitors.
In August, though, some 250,990 visitors were reported, as compared to 258,818 in August 1984. Still, some 1,196,805 visitors have passed through the park, a 2.3 percent increase over last year at this time.
Likewise, the number of overnight visitors are also on the rise, both for the month and the year-todate reports. Some 93,279 overnight visitors were reported in August, almost 20,000 more than that same month in 1984, bringing the year-to-date totals to slightly more than 302,119, an increase of about 28,000.
