Fifth race at Foxfield is a $1,000 open turf race at a mile. There is also a substitute claiming race, for a $12,000 price, with a $5,000 purse at two miles.

Virginia Fall Races

The month of October opens with two days of Middleburg on its first weekend, the fifth and sixth. This is Middleburg’s third year pulling a double-header and a varied card is once again offered horsemen.

The first day of the meet at Glenwood Park starts at 2 p.m. with two $3,000 maiden ’chases, both at two miles. The first is for 3-year-olds, the second for 4-yearolds and up.

Third race on the card will be a $5,000 ’chase for non-winners of two, again at two miles. A maiden timber race, at three miles for a $3,000 purse, will be next, followed by a maiden turf race at a mile and a quarter on the grass.The day’s final race is another flat race, this time for amateur riders, at two miles.

Sunday’s races at Glenwood begin at 1:30 p.m. with a $3,000 maiden steeplechase. The second race is new to the card this year. This will be a $3,000 claiming ’chase for apprentice riders.
