Cafe Prince did not race as a 6-year-old because of a bowed tendon, and the following year the comeback road was a bumpy one. He won only four of nine starts, pulling down the season’s finale, the Colonial Cup. In his final year of racing, he fumbled the first fence at Fair Hill, losing his rider and his bridle. Running free, “The Prince” led the field, jumping flawlessly to finish well in front. He pulled himself up and trotted back to his waiting groom with all the aplomb of a champion. He now enjoys the pleasures of foxhunting with the Andrews Bridge Hounds in southern Pennsylvania.
