Meadow Brook at Belmont Park and finishing third in the Temple Gwathmey. He was named Horse of the Year that year despite his few starts. However he had a brilliant career in Europe. He included the Cheltenham Gold Cup in his record book, winning there twice. At the Aintree course, he made three appearances, finishing first, second and third in reverse order. He was retired at age 12 after his victory in the Grand National.
Six weeks ago, the latest steeplechase horse to be honored in the Hall of Fame was Cafe Prince. Owned by Unionville, Pa., based George Strawbridge, Jr.’s Augustin Stables, “The Prince” lived up to his name. A foal of 1970 by Creme de la Creme - Princess Blair by Blue Prince, he was the first of the Augustin horses to earn an Eclipse award.
