scholarship chairman, announced that a National DAR Scholarship of $500 had been awarded to Virginia Hickman, a graduate of Rappahannock County High School who now attends Virginia Commonwealth University where she is majoring in occupational therapy.
Five members of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter NSDAR are attending the District VI DAR meeting being held at Natural Bridge today.
An invitation from Mr. Paul Frantz, a member of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter SAR, to attend two ceremonies on Sept. 28 when two patriot markers will be dedicated was extended. One of the markers will be dedicated at Lewis Dennis Yancey’s grave in Culpeper County at noon and the other at 3 p.m. at the grave site of John Slaughter in Rappahannock.
The following were honored with certificates of membership: Mrs. Philip Morrison, of Madison, 50 year certificate; Mrs. Carly Longley, of Madison, 25 year certificate; Mrs. F.D. Griffith, of Brandy Station, 25 years and Mrs. John L. Jeffries, of Culpeper, 25 year certificate.
Mrs. Philip Brewer announced that a slide show on sharing an Antarctic experience will be presented by Mr. and Mrs. Brewer at Culpeper United Methodist Church on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.
Mrs. James Weaver and Mrs. Dale Metzinger told of the plans for a seminar on genealogical research to be held at Culpeper Junior High School on Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A registration fee of $15 should be sent to Mrs. Connie Grimsley, 151 Timber Trail Rd.. Mountain Lake Run, Culpeper, by Oct. 15. This includes lunch.
