Foxfield Fall Races

The Foxfield races in Charlottesville fall on Sunday, Sept. 29, this year to avoid a Saturday conflict with a University of Virginia game.

Apart from the new day, there is little change in the rjices at this attractive course. First race of the day will be at 1 p.m. so spectators will not get home too late for their Sunday dinners. The opening race will be a $5,000 maiden steeplechase at two miles. Second race is a $6,000 non-winners of two, also at two miles. Timber horses contest the third race, over a threemile route for a $3,000 purse.

The fourth race is the feature, the $20,000 Grand National at 214 miles. This race is the first leg of steeplechasing’s triple crown and should attract a quality field of hurdle horses.
