wish list is considerably shorter and far more secular than that. Basic survival and day-to-day mental well-being far outweigh those instincts like trying to appear on the cover of People Magazine.
My list is more basic, addressing more immediate needs and desires.
I wish:
-The check I’m going to write tonight for beer and peanuts doesn’t get back to the bank before I can deposit my pay check sometime tomorrow. Otherwise, with return charges and all, a six-pack and a can of dry roasteds will cost me about $15.
-I wish I get to the laundromat on Sunday without having a car wreck because, by that time, I will probably be wearing a pair of undershorts with holes in them and that will most certainly embarrass my mother to no end. “Mrs. McFarlane, your son is alive and recovering nicely in the intensive care ward,” the emergency room doctor will say. “But he had a nasty hole in his underwear and will be charged double for his room.”
-I wish I never traded my blue 1969 Montego for $300.1 sometimes miss that car.
-I wish I hadn’t set my kitchen on fire Super Bowl Sunday three years ago.
-I wished I spiked the iced tea the day Cathy Kattau and I went to the beach. I wish I went into the water with her. I wish she didn’t get so sunburned that she was in severe pain for several days afterwards. I wish I had the nerve to ask
