struggle to attain victory involves the hard work and frequent practices ih late summer, although all members of the team were not able to attend. However, since the start of school, all team members have worked hard each after school practice. During the rest of the week, each player must again work hard to complete the team’s run of three to four miles.
Wakefield can now look forward to the team’s first game against Tandem School this week and its home opener against an always tough RMA squad on Sept. 24. Other highlights of the season include games against Seton, St. Anne’s Bellfield and the homecoming game against Rappahannock High School.
The varsity and junior varsity field hockey teams have also been practicing hard in anticipation of the upcoming season. This summer, 12 members of the team traveled to Collegeville, Pennsylvania, where they spent a week at the Merestead Hockey and Lacrosse Camp improving their skills through extensive drill and practice games.
This past week, Coach Barbara Todd called the first after-school practice where there was a record turnout despite the oppressive heat. The team is looking forward to playing such old rivals as Tandem, Foxcroft and Notre Dame as well as several new teams including Fauquier High School.
With hard work and support from the fans, both teams hope to be propelled forward to a successful season.
