-I wish I stuck with my adult education class in basic typing instead of continuing with my haphazard system, something I call a moddddified, er modified, hunt-and-peck method.
-I wish I never listened to my junior high school guidance counselor who suffered from blisters on the brain and told me to enroll in seventh grade Spanish. “You need it for college,’' he told me. Chicken gravy. Nobody speaks Spanish this close to the Blue Ridge except the migrant workers and, after four years of barely getting by in classroom Spanish, they wouldn’t understand a word I had to say. And nobody in college spoke Spanish. If they did, I ignored them. They’re in America; let them struggle with the English ' language just like the rest of us.
-I wish I had bought volumes 6, 14 and 16 of that supermarket encyclopedia set. They would have filled out all the space on my bookcase.
-I wish I never bought the other twenty-something volumes and that I had the money in my pocket that I used to buy them in the first place.
-I wish Exxon Company employees don’t check into that baloney and cheese story I told them about why my check is a little late this month.
-I wish I could cook something other than hamburger, hot dogs, peanut butter and jelly, canned soup and lettuce salads.
