Unsatisfied with the evaluation of his teaching methods, the past president of the Fauquier Education Association is taking his grievance to court.
Sterling resident Charles E. Schonder III, a math and history teacher at Marshall Junior High School, got four low marks out of seven in a May evaluation by Principal Elaine Walker.
The instructor contends the evaluation “fails to represent my performance fairly” and “provides little or no basis upon which to improve my performance,” according to court documents.
He wants the low ratings changed from “area needing improvement” to “area of strength.”
Mr. Schonder took his case to the principal, assistant school superintendent and later to the Fauquier School Board. In August, the board ruled unanimously that Mr. Schonder did not have a grievance because “it did not state a misapplication or tnisinterpretation of a procedure,” the court documents read.
The teacher filed an appeal in Fauquier Circuit Court Aug. 30 to reverse the School Board decision. No date has been set for his hearing.
Cancer Society gets award
The Fauquier chapter of the American Cancer Society will receive the highest award given by the state division.
In February, the unit will get the prestigious President’s Cup for its record-breaking cancer crusade last spring.
During the annual cancer fund drive which starts in April, volunteers raised $30,054, the “most money ever collected,” according to Secretary Alma Robinson. The group surpassed its goal of $29,696.
The president’s cup is given to chapters that raise more than $30,000 for cancer research.
