Great Meadow Races

This will be the second fall race meet at Great Meadow, and after the extremely successful Virginia Gold Cup in May officials are ready for an exciting day of racing Oct. 19.

The youngsters will start the procedures off at the course near The Plains with pony races at noon. The day’s first sanctioned race, a two-mile maiden ’chase, goes off at 1:30 p.m.

Great Meadow’s second race, a maiden timber contest, is new to the meet. The race, to be called the Great Meadow Cup, used to be run at the Monmouth County Hunt Races at Red Bank, N. J. For the past few years, however, Monmouth has had great trouble filling its maiden timber race and decided to take it off the card so it could use the space taken up by the timber fences to improve its brush and flat race courses. Both the Monmouth and the Great Meadow meets should benefit from this move.
