Spring is a busy time for members of the 4-H Livestock Club as the 1996 show season and contests get underway.
David Massie, an eleven year old member of the club, showed one heifer and two market steers and received several awards at the Glenwood Park 4-H Show on Saturday, April 13. " The Glenwood Park Livestock ShoVv, which was held at the Loudoun County Fairgrounds near Leesburg, included over 50 classes of various breeds and ages of steers/heifers.
Jim Massie, David’s father and 4H leader, reported that the ’96 Show “hkd the largest number of exhibitors and animals in quite a few years.” ! This is the first show of the season before local county fairs and cattle association shows are held during the summer.
The morning’s itinerary began With the Junior and Senior Showmanship classes which all exhibitors are required to enter. David placed third in his division. The judge gave each exhibitor pointers since this $fiow is a learning experience.
In the Heifer division, David entered a Continental-Cross summer yearling commercial heifer. He won his class as well as Champion Continental-Cross Heifer and the Champion Bred and Owned class. . David also showed two market steers. In the Angus late junior yearling class, David won first in his division. There were five divisions.
