Soccer Teams
Fail To Score The Rappahannock County High School soccer teams seem to dominate their opponents throughout their games, but end up tied or losing in the scoring column. Last week the varsity team got its second victory over Clarke County 32, but the week also brought a loss to Quantico 1-0 and a 4 to 0 loss to Brentsville. Then on Monday the team got an early goal against James Wood and held on to a 1-0 lead until late in the second half when James Wood got a breakaway goal to tie the score. Two five-minute overtime periods were scoreless, and the Panthers had to settle for another tie. The JV expected to dominate a smaller St. Luke’s squad last Wednesday and got the lead on a goal by Ryland Pace, but settled for a 1-1 tie, and on Monday, they went down in a 1-0 score against the James Wood JV. . Both coaches are pleased with the play of their teams and frustrated with the results. Of the St. Luke’s game Coach Mark Pace notpd that five of the Panther players join five of the St. Luke’s players on a travel team, so the game was a friendly rivalry between players who know what each other can do. He said his team had 26 shots on goal to 11 for St. Luke’s. “We had lots of chances. We just didn’t finish that well,” he said.
