said he is amazed that anyone would think of cutting teachers’ salaries when high school teachers are preparing to go to block scheduling that will require them to make major changes in the way they teach.
Jennifer Bowen, a high school junior, said she had been helped by teachers who encouraged her interest in creative writing. She said she had loved taking a creative writing course, but there are no more advanced classes for her to take. “I have something that gives me self confidence. I can’t take it any farther here. I’m starving inside. Are you willing to walk away and let me die?”
Rick Kohler said it is “tragic we can’t send the children to the national championship. We can’t afford not to challenge our students. We need sports facilities. I strongly support the budget. It is a minimal budget. I challenge you to come up with more money for this system.”
Holly May said, “I’m in favor of the budget. I wish it wasn’t so lean. I think we should be spending more....Teaching is one of the hardest most demanding jobs there is. I think all teachers are underpaid and underappreciated.”
