‘ 1922 - Eight local sportsmen meet at the Fauquier Club in Warrenton to organize the first race ever held over four miles of stone walls and rail fences at historic Oakwood. Won by Irish Laddie.
• 1924 - Gold Cup races move to Broadview, and event is run for first time with national sanctioning.
• 1929 - Races move to Clovercroft after a fire destroys Broadview mansion in 1928.
• 1943-1945 - No Gold Cups run during the height of World War II.
• 1967 - Leeds Don fifth horse to retire Gold Cup, as the only one to win three consecutive renewals.
