The Owls jumped out to an early lead and kept up consistent pressure. WCDS goalie Tim Burke led the defense, providing 10 saves. The midfield was controlled by WCDS offensively and defensively, and the Owls were able to convert a number of Baron turnovers to offensive opportunities.
David Brandt had three goals, and Andrew Nilan added three more. Nick Konick and Thad Zimmer had one each.
On Friday, April 19 the team got its first win with a 5 to 4 victory over Notre Dame Academy.
The Owls were paced by solid midfield and defensive play. In the effort the Owls collected 64 groundballs and “did a good job of controlling the pace of the game,” according to Coach Chandler. Goalie Tim Burke made 16 saves. Scoring for the Owls were David. Brandt, Thad Zimmer and Andrew Nilan.
However, the next day the team had its second loss 10- 0 to St. James.
According to Coach Chandler the Owls midfield continued running well and winning groundballs. However, “Offensively, the Owls were lethargic, unable to create any real momentum.”
Earlier WCDS opened its lacrosse season with a 5-4 loss to Woodberry Forest JV A.
