The two ride together and belong to the U.S. Pony Club. They also participate on the cross-country and track teams at RCHS, and both ran in the Fodderstack 10K last weekend and did very well. They have been on several ski trips too.
The fact that Myriam was French also played a part in the Baumgardner’s decision to pick her. Mrs. Baumgardner’s ancestry is French; her maiden name is DeJamette. Three of their children study French in school, and having Myriam with them has helped their French too.
Myriam has probably travelled more in the states than a lot of Rappahannock residents her age. YFU (the foreign exchange program) sponsored a trip to New York City. She has also been on a bicycle trip in Washington, D.C. and seen the play Les Miserables and visited the White House, and camped in Shenandoah National Park.
The Baumgardners enjoyed introducing her to Halloween in Washington, and they said that at Christmas she had never received so many gifts. On Easter, they held an Easter egg hunt and Myriam gathered more eggs than anyone else. The upcoming prom and graduation are really exciting for her too, said Mrs. Baumgardner.
At home, said Mrs. Baumgardner, Myriam is always willing to help. Myriam and Caroline normally clear (he table after dinner, and she helps care for their three horses. She gets along with all the children at home, Spencer, Alex and Julia, and with everyone at school.
Mr. Baumgardner said it is going to be an emotional time when Myriam leaves to return to France. But the
