Racing gets into the blood, the saying goes, and it is a hard habit to break.
But steeplechase jockey Joseph Leiter Aitcheson Jr. doesn’t want to shake his horse habit. At age 68 the eight-time champion rider is still galloping thoroughbred racehorses every morning at Laurel Park, keeping his aging grandfather’s figure fit for what he says will be the comeback to end all comebacks in the year 2000 — steeplechasing at the age of 72.
Literally a living legend, Aitcheson set the all-time record for jump wins by an American jump jockey — 440 in his 23-year career. He also holds the record as the winningest rider of the Virginia Gold Cup, having triumphed eight times on eight different horses at the old Broadview course in
