Bill Dietel said it is important the the Board of Supervisors hear from older citizens who don’t have children in the public schools. ‘‘Many of us are willing to pay more taxes if the money went to public schools,” he said. He added he was concerned about the “note of defensiveness” in the budget presentation. “I am appalled there is no increase in the library budget, materials, that we’ve decided to cut teachers. Schools run on excellence,” he said. “You’re seeking average support for average salaries. The schools are last in line to beg our share.”
