at Elkridge Hartford. John Bosley owns and trains the gelding, another rider who knows his way around Great Meadow. He partnered Kuujjuaq to win in 1994, and will be primed for action come May 4.
Eben Sutton’s point-to-point winner Chaiten and the Billy Meister-trained Concerned round out the Maryland-bred contingent. Chaiten is trained near Middleburg, and he made easy work of winning the Orange County timber feature in early April. He Finished well up the track in the Grand National but is effective over big fences and should run competitively.
Kentucky-bred by Crescent Farms, gray Frost A Lot will have a big question to answer in the Gold Cup, in just his first season over timber. Though the Jimmy Day charge ran away and hid from maiden competition in his debut at Piedmont this March — by 40-plus lengths with Day’s wife Emily along for the ride — the gelding is asked a lot to run against such seasoned competition. He proved himself special, however, and may just fit the bill over the big Great Meadow course.
