Dr. Gangel said the school system was trying to establish whether vocational education could be offered locally at a cost the same or less than the cost of having students take vocational courses at Piedmont Technical School. He said he expects the School Board to make a decision on whether to proceed with a vocational education wing in September.

He said besides the cost of having vocational education offered at Piedmont another consideration is the small number of students who take classes at Piedmont because of the difficulty of scheduling a full course load when so much time is lost ir traveling back and forth betweei schools.

Piedmont District representative Tom Junk asked Dr. Gangel to consider the cost of maintaining a larger plant. Chairman Mike Massie said Piedmont offers a better education than the University of Virginia.
