A standing-room-only crowd of some 250 people packed into the Rappahannock County High School Auditorium on Tuesday evening to meet the three candidates hoping to be the county’s next sheriff
Lt. Connie Compton Smith, Sgt. J.C. Welch and Maj. Chris Williams were on the spot for nearly two hours as the three candidates talked about their experience in law enforcement, - described their hopes for the sheriff’s office and answered questions submitted by Rappahannock citizens.
This is the first time in more than 30 years that Rappahannock has had a sheriff’s race without an incumbent, and citizens seemed interested to learn more about the three homegrown candidates vying for the office.
