Conservation Festival

The Smithsonian/National Zoo's Conservation and Research Center in Front Royal will have its annual Autumn Conservation Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. This family-friendly event is the one time each year when the CRC is open to the public to show off the Center's conservation and research programs for U.S. and foreign endangered species, from clouded leopards and red pandas to blackfooted ferrets and endangered Pacific birds. There will be displays, tours of the Center's veterinary hos pital, and opportunities to meet and talk to the scientists, curators, and keepers to who work at the CRC and around the world on wildlife conservation programs. There will also be live music, hay rides, and other children's activities. A daily car pass gooc for either Saturday or Sunday can be obtained for a $25 donation to the Friends of the National Zoo to support the Center's work, available through the web at <http://nationalzoo.si.edu/ActivitiesAnd Events/Celebrations/ACF/default.cfm>, or at the Town of Front Royal Visitor Center. Oct. 7: Benefit Concert and Dinner

There will be music for all tastes followed by a spaghetti dinner starting at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Amissville United Methodist Church. The concert will open with the serenading guitar and vocals of Jeannette Wood and Bob Shaffer of Cobbler Mountain Grass who will perform some bluegrass favorites. The feature act will be alternative inspirational music by the band Ryan Benyo Experience, with piano solos you don’t want to miss. A spaghetti dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. prepared and served by the United Methodist Men, All donations received for the evening will be used for the United Methodist Men’s service projects in the community.
