Jerri is also part of the support system for her mother and grandmother. Both have diabetes. Her grandmother is already on dialysis and her mother will be soon. One of the reasons Jerri’s stayed in the medical field was that she appreciated how it allowed her 'to help her family with medications, questions about diabetes and treatments and about proper diet. Now that medical background is helping her chart a course for her own treatment.
Despite the ongoing shock, Jerri’s trying to keep life as normal as possible, especially for Maya. She’s promised Maya the/ll go to “High School Musical on Ice” and sometime this month they’ll head to a pumpkin patch.
“Don’t ignore anything,” Jerri tells me. No one thinks it can happen to them. At 29, most of us still think we’re invulnerable. But Jerri can tell you that it’s just not true. The fact that she listened to her body and immediately checked it out means that she’s likely to be here to hold her grandchildren some day. Having spent some time with Jerri this week, Fve no doubt her grandchildren will be shaking their head at this bundle of energy!
