When long time Middle Street Gallery member Emily Kinnier died last November, she had already completed most of a planned October show for the gallery in Washington, Virginia. Thus it seemed natural to her family in Richmond and her friends at the gallery that the show should go on as planned.
By adding representative examples of her printmaking work to display the breadth of her creativity, family and friends have created a colorful tour through her distinctive style and imagery, reflecting the remarkable 50-year career of this amazing woman, a cheerful and energetic artist who loved people as much as she loved art.
As Mrs. Kinnier generously did during her lifetime, her family will donate all proceeds from sales tTo the Middle Street Gallery artists cooperative.
Emily Kinnier was a product of the famed Art Students League in New York City in the 1950s where her teachers included Ben Cunningham and Morris Kantor. Later, at the Studio Atlantic Highlands in New Jersey, she studied with the doyenne of color composition, Burgoyne Diller.
