True to form, Jerri did not shrink from the new challenge. She was in the hospital in Charlottesville in less than two weeks for surgery. While the cancer was caught early, Stage 1, it turns out that it’s a very aggressive form of cancer. The aggressiveness of cancers is rated on a grade of 1 to 3 with three being the most aggressive. Jerri’s tumor was a grade three and so the treatment plan called for an aggressive response. So the surgery Jerri had was a bilateral simple mastectomy, which means both breasts were removed, but not the lymph nodes or any of the chest wall. At
