There’s nothing quite like getting that first win to boost team morale.
For a Rappahannock County program with an embattled history of losing, one win could be the start of something special.
Last Saturday, the Panthers beat Timber Ridge 336. It was Rappahannock County’s first win over a school other than Chincoteague. It was a giant step for the Panthers third-year program.
“This is a very big win,” senior captain Tim Fitzmorris said. “We have confidence now. It’s a new feeling. We feel like we can play with anybody this season.”
With Chincoteague set to embark upon Rappahannock County for a Saturday afternoon contest, folks are starting to use a phrase never heard around the mountains of Rappahannock County - “win streak.”
If Rappahannock beats Chincoteague - the Panthers beat them each of the last two seasons - the Panthers will win back-toback game for the first time in the team’s 25-game history.
It would do wonders for the Panthers program.
“It would give us a lot of confidence heading into district play,” quarterback Jonathan Butler said. “ Right now we believe we can win and if we beat Chincoteague that would be give us even more confidence for the rest of the season.”
