Of the many organizations and jurisdictions battling the proposed power lines, Gilbert chose to donate to the PLA.

“We’re very pleased and we think it’s a natural place for him to make that donation,” said Gale Johnson, a Huntly resident and chairman of the PLA. “Beyond the monetary contribution, we think it’s very symbolic and will send a message far and wide.”

Gilbert has been a vocal opponent of the power-line proposal. In August, he spoke at a State Corporation Commission hearing about the issue in Front Royal. The delegate urged the commissioners that, if the new electric corridor is authorized, the lines should be buried to maintain the scenic beauty of the area.
