The board passed a measure to allow the county administrator, with the approval of a forest warden, to declare a ban on open burning in Rappahannock when dry conditions malm such an activity hazardous.
Before Monday, an openburning ban could only be issued by the supervisors. That procedure caused a delayed response to the hazardous conditions.

The board took no action on a proposal to use the historic Montpelier on F.T Valley Road as an events center.
The mansion’s owners Roger and Sophie Scruton applied fin* a special-exception permit for the new use, but forgot to attend the supervisors’ meeting Monday. The application will be on the board’s agenda in November.
