The process was only slightly more complex than writing a check. Actually, I wrote two checks: (1) to our friend for the tax credits at the going price; and (2) to the lawyer for doing the paperwork. I had estimated my taxes so I knew how many credits to purchase. I then prepared the forms in the usual manner at the usual time and paid with the tax credits rather than our personal check. I had a small overpayment that will be credited to this year’s liability since a refund is not possible using tax credits.
