The State Corporation Commission soon will learn if it will get more time to study Dominion Virginia Power’s proposed transmission line through the Piedmont.
SCC hearing examiner Alexander Skirpan could decide the matter within days.
The commission staff wants to postpone review-related deadlines because of the “complex and novel” nature of Dominion’s application for a the 500,000-volt line.
Its requested extensions range from about a month to 60 days.
Case participants or respondents, including Fauquier County, Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) and Dominion, this week filed responses to the SCC staff extension request. Fauquier County and PEC backed the staff.
But Dominion suggested a series of alternatives.
Dominion believes the SCC staff should be allowed a two-week extension to file its testimony on Nov. 19, instead of the 60 days it requested.
A 60-day extension would push the SCC staff testimony deadline to Jan. 8, 2008.
Dominion wants the existing deadline for respondent testimony to the application to remain unchanged at Oct. 9.
The SCC staff recommended a Dec. 4 deadline for such testimony.
Dominion wants a two-week extension to rebut testimony from PEC, Fauquier, Rappahannock and others who oppose the project.
