To open the sixteenth season in the Smithsonian at Little Washington concert series, the Smithsonian Chamber Players will bring a concert of music by Johann Sebastian Bach to the Theatre at Washington, Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m.
This first Smithsonian concert of the current season will be another in the popular “Brilliance of the Baroque” series. Led by Kenneth Slowik, Artistic Director of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, the concert will explore Bach’s keyboard concertos. These concertos, written for harpsichord, are sometimes heard, in modern performances, with a piano in the leading role. But for the concert at the Theatre Slowik will bring a beautiful French double-manual harpsichord made by William Dowd. Despite the fact that they were written nearly 300 years ago, the harpsichord concertos have remained a central part of the keyboard repertoire.
