auction
The 16th annual MARE Center Thoroughbred yearling auction is set Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
Twenty-two Jockey Clubregistered fillies and geldings will be sold. Proceeds benefit equine nutrition research at the center.
A seminar entitled “Managing Healthy Growth and Development in Young Horses" will be taught at the Middleburg cento’ Oct. 19 from 9 aan.-4 p.m. The cost is $25 per person.

GRC festival
this weekend
Hie annual Autumn Conservation Festival at Front Royal’s Conservation and Research Cento is set Oct. 6-7 from 10 a.m -3 p.m. both days. This event offers visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the National Zoo’s endangered species conservation programs underway at the 3,200-acre facility.
Visitors can view rare and endangered species, including red pandas, maned wolves, clouded leopards and an array of birds, such as the beautiful Bali mynah while enjoying the backdrop of the Shenandoah Valley.
The festival is a family event with tours, live music and other activities, all designed to exhibit the zoo’s conservation facility on the only two days it is open to the public. Special, guided tours take visitors through the veterinary hospital and endangered species breeding facilities.
The event is free for CRC members and $25 for the general public. Space is limited and reservations are required. More details are online at www. nationalzoo. si.edu.
