Mr. Clarkson worked as an announcer in his high school years on the old WBCC-AM radio station in Washington, D.C. He was the youngest television director in Washington, DC. at WMAL-TV (now WJLA).
He attended the University of Oklahoma 1950-1952 as a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Mr. Clarkson served in the Army in Japan after the Korean War.
He attended American University where he received his communications degree in 1957.
He married Natalie von Meyer Clarkson in 1957. He worked as a reporter for TeleNews regularly interviewing major political figures on network evening news broadcasts in the late 1950s.
Mr. Clarkson had four sons; Andy Clarkson of Charlotte, NC, Tom Clarkson of Boca Raton, FL, Jack Clarkson of Rockville, MD and Matt Clarkson of Lebanon, PA., and nine grandchildren.
He worked for Richard Nixon as a rally man in the 1960 presidential election. Was founder and president of Harry I Clarkson Associates, Inc. Harry I. Clarkson Associates, Inc., was an advertising and public relations firm from 1966 to 1982.
