a Richmond-based company, to do a system-wide performance analysis and inspection of the water purification system, the storage tank, pump house installation, etc., to ensure that everything is working properly. The council approved the action, pending town attorney Frank Reynold’s review of the contract.

Tompkins’s Wastewater Survey committee recently contracted with Resource International, to conduct a feasibility study regarding the town’s sewage problem. The council issued a Request for Proposal early last year, but withheld action while the health department conducted its September survey. The results of that survey and input from the Milton Herd visioning survey supported continuation of the project. Resource will evaluate the suitability of various technology options available and submit recommendations to the council.

Last fall, many of the different technologies were displayed at the Washington fire hall during an alternative wastewater seminar held in conjunction with the state Department of Environmental Quality.

Van Dort requested input for the new FY99 budget before the next council meeting so she could incorporate any additional line items into it and obligated money against them. She stressed that any additional income and uncommitted funds expire at the end of the year. A public hearing on the budget will be held in May. The council will vote on it in June.
